Kettering Nature Group is a grassroots organisation dedicated to inspiring an upsurge in local conservation. We connect communities with nature through citizen science, biodiversity recording, and educational initiatives, working with schools, local groups, and residents across Kettering. Our projects focus on hands-on conservation, from creating wildlife habitats to running public events like the Festival of Nature, all aimed at making nature accessible and engaging for everyone.
KNG is an established Community Interest Company delivering civic ecology, nature recovery and placemaking across North Northamptonshire. We work with local authorities, NHS Trusts, housing providers, developers, businesses, schools, community organisations and residents to create healthier, more resilient places where both people and wildlife can thrive.
Our work is guided by our civic ecology model, which brings together ecological knowledge, strategic planning and community engagement to embed nature into everyday life. By integrating biodiversity recovery with placemaking, health, education, climate resilience and community wellbeing, we help organisations create places that are greener, more connected and valued by the people who live, work and visit there.
KNG led the development and authorship of the Kettering Parish Nature Recovery Plan, translating ecological evidence, local priorities and partnership working into a practical framework for long-term nature recovery. Alongside strategic planning, we deliver biodiversity monitoring, habitat creation, species conservation, environmental education, volunteer engagement and community participation programmes that generate measurable environmental and social outcomes.
Our flagship initiatives include #NaturallyKettering, Swift Streets, Community Nature Spaces, the annual Midlands Festival of Nature and the Wildlife Rescue & Emergency Network (WREN). We also provide commissioned consultancy, project delivery and public engagement services, supporting organisations to achieve biodiversity, sustainability and social value objectives through practical, evidence-led solutions.
Whether supporting a local authority to deliver nature recovery, helping an NHS Trust create therapeutic green spaces, working with housing providers and developers to create thriving, nature-positive communities, assisting businesses to strengthen their environmental and social impact, or inspiring local people to take action for wildlife, KNG delivers projects that create lasting benefits for both nature and society.
By choosing Kettering Nature Group, clients invest not only in high-quality environmental delivery but also in a Community Interest Company whose work reinvests every commission into reconnecting people with nature, strengthening communities and creating a more nature-positive future for North Northamptonshire.
We can offer advice and support in the following areas:
1. Civic Ecological Infrastructure Programmes (CEIP)
We work with local authorities, developers, businesses, schools, NHS Trusts and other organisations to design and deliver bespoke Civic Ecological Infrastructure Programmes. These programmes use nature as infrastructure to help organisations achieve environmental, social and organisational objectives whilst creating healthier, more resilient and more biodiverse places. Whether it's a new development such as Hanwood Park, an existing town or parish, a school campus, an NHS estate or a business premises, CEIP provides a structured framework for embedding nature into the places where people live, work and learn.
2. CEIP Delivery
We provide the practical delivery needed to implement those programmes, including ecological surveys, GIS mapping, habitat creation, biodiversity enhancement, species recovery, community engagement, volunteer coordination, environmental education, monitoring and long-term stewardship. Every programme is tailored to the needs of the client and the place, providing a complete delivery service rather than simply a written strategy.
3. Nature Recovery Infrastructure, Products and Resources
We design, manufacture and supply practical infrastructure, products and resources that enable organisations and communities to deliver nature recovery themselves. This includes products such as our Swift Streets Packages, wildlife infrastructure, educational resources, interpretation, engagement materials, digital tools and other practical resources that support biodiversity, community participation and long-term stewardship. Alongside these commissioned services, many of these products can also be purchased directly by communities, organisations and developers to support their own biodiversity and engagement projects.
